High-Quality Headphone Output Processed by an Exclusive Operational Amplifier on Each Channel
The AI-501DA is also designed for headphone listening, as well as speaker listening. An exclusive operational amplifier is employed on each channel. Conventional hi-fi systems only use a single operational amplifier for both channels.
No Cooling-Fan, for Quiet Operation
Effort to eliminate the signal to noise ratio and ensure high-quality audio playback mean nothing with a noisy cooling fan. To reach both goals of attaining high performance and compact dimentions, TEAC carefully arranged the inner-workings to eliminate the need of a fan. There are two parameters that conflict with efficient heat dissipation, the circuit design and chassis design. After careful strategy, effective placement of potential heat-generating components allows this high-performance compact amplifier to operate without a cooling fan.

This product signals the beginning of a new chapter for TEAC, with both high-resolution audio and Bluetooth® playback in a single-box product.
Compact, with USB input and fully compatible with high-resolution DSD
Capable of 5.6MHz DSD native playback.
The USB input facility allows DSD native playback which converts 5.6MHz DSD files directly into analog signals without needing first to convert it to PCM. It supports both the ASIO2.1 and DoP (DSD over PCM) conversion methods. Using the AI-301DA in conjunction with the TEAC HR Audio Player* high-resolution playback computer software application, anyone can easily explore the world of high-rez digital audio, including 5.6MHz DSD or 32bit/192 kHz PCM files, without struggling to have to understand complex settings etc.
Asynchronous mode-capable USB input
When receiving digital audio signals from a computer via USB cable, the unit can operate in asynchronous mode, controlling the timing of the input signal using the UD-301's internal clock (which is identical to the one used in the UD-501). With asynchronous transmission over USB, signal compromising jitter is effectively eliminated, allowing digital audio signals to be transmitted in a pure, unadulterated state.
Coaxial and optical digital inputs offer versatility
Besides its a USB audio input, the AI-301DA is also fitted with S/PDIF inputs for maximum compatibility. The coaxial digital input supports up to 24bit/192kHz while the optical digital input supports up to 24bit/96kHz digital audio.
Wireless playback at high sound quality via Bluetooth® using the aptX® codec
The AI-301DA supports the aptX® codec which offers high sound quality wireless playback capability via Bluetooth® hardware. Besides high quality sound, the aptX® codec also offers low latency and an excellent error recovery function, both crucial features for achieving the best audio performance.
High-performance BurrBrown PCM1795 digital-analog converter
The BurrBrown PCM 1795 D/A converter converts 5.6MKz DSD or 32bit/192kHz PCM digital data into analog form. The analog signal, which is derived from huge digital audio data files (far larger than those used by CD) delivers a finely etched sound, with a great sense of depth.
ICEpower high sound quality Class-D amp circuit
The power amplifier stage is based upon a tried and tested Class-D amp, manufactured by ICEpower of Denmark.
It converts a high-resolution sound source into high-definition speaker signals using a feedback loop between a hybrid feedback controlled oscillating modulator (HCOM) which faithfully amplifies the signal, and a multivariable enhanced cascade control (MECC). The efficient design of the 60W + 60W (4 ohms) amplifier creates very little heat, eliminating any need for a cooling fan, thus affording a quiet environment that's ideal for musical appreciation.
CCLC circuits provide high-quality headphone output
The 100mW + 100mW output (at 32 ohms load) headphone amplifier uses CCLC (Coupling Capacitor Less Circuit) technology. In ordinary headphone output circuits, a capacitor is used for output-stage coupling, and so the sound is unavoidably colored. When the capacitor is combined with a high-pass filter this often results in phase lags, or low frequency level degradation. With CCLC the negative impact of capacitors on sound quality is eliminated, providing full low-frequency sound and a responsive headphone listening environment with great spatiality.
Well-engineered aluminum enclosure, compact proportions
Following on from our development of the 501 series concept (small high-performance audio components that can be fitted on a desktop) we decided, at the outset, that the 301 series would be an even more compact design. Now, the casework has been shrunken to just 215mm wide, allowing greater freedom in positioning the amplifier. External highlights include aluminum panels and a motor-driven volume knob with the tactile feel you'd expect from controls found in high end full-size hi-fi components. At the same time, the solid enclosure underpinned by the metal chassis, is impressively inert, minimizing the effects of vibration on the unit's sound quality.
Simple operation with Auto Power On
The AI-301DA has a well-conceived Auto Power On function which automatically switches on the unit's power when it senses a digital signal input. When the amplifier is connected to optical digital audio output from a television set, just switching on the television turns on the power of the AI-301DA, enabling you to immediately enjoy high-quality sound without having to adjust any other settings. This facility makes life very convenient allowing users to switch on the TV and instantly listen to music or a soundtrack.
Combine with the LS-301 speakers to create a simple high-resolution system
Combining the AI301-DA, with its high-performance engineering packed into a compact body, and the LS-301 coaxial speaker, specifically developed to match it, creates a system that does full justice to any high-resolution audio source.
What's more, the AI301-DA has been fitted with a sub-woofer pre-out plug so that the user can, if they wish, also employ the equally compact 2.1ch LS-WH01 satellite/subwoofer system, ,making for an extraordinarily compact 2.1ch system that can easily be placed on a desktop or next to a TV set.

UD-503
Dual-monaural USB DAC that supports 11.2MHz DSD with built-in fully-balanced/parallel-unbalanced headphone amplifier.
TEAC is proudly to announce that the UD-503 have received Japan’s most authoritative award, the VGP 2016 (Visual Grand Prix) Gold Prize in D/C Converter category in October 2015.
High-performance VERITA AK4490 DACs support 11.2MHz DSD and 384kHz/32-bit PCM
For DAC chips, which are the keys to digital audio, we have used VERITA AK4490 DACs, which are made by Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation and have an established reputation for use in high-end audio equipment.* The VELVET SOUND architecture provides the fine expressive capability suitable for the playback of high-resolution audio sources that reproduce sound waves outside the human audible range. Furthermore, a newly developed low distortion technology enables performance of S/(N+D) = 112 dB. This is the best level in the industry for a 120dB class DAC.
Not only is native playback with direct processing of 11.2MHz DSD signals possible, support is provided for an even greater variety of high-resolution audio sources, including 384kHz/32-bit PCM digital input. We have realized expression of the fine smooth detail and outstanding sense of sound placement that characterize high-resolution audio sources.
Dual-monaural structure supports fully-balanced transmission and realizes further advancement
Behind the expressiveness of the UD-503, which exceeds the level expected of its class, is an indulgent dual-monaural circuit structure that encompasses every aspect from the power and D/A sections to the analog output stage.
Starting with the toroidal core power transformers, which feature the ability to supply stable current, and the high-performance VERITA AK4490 DACs, the dual-monaural structure has a complete mono circuit for each channel. This prevents the signals from interfering with each other as much as possible. Interference is suppressed between the left and right channels, which is particularly important for headphone listening, so this unit can also be used as a high-performance headphone amplifier.
Furthermore, by processing the output signals of each channel completely with a differential from immediately after D/A conversion to the final output stage, common mode noise is removed and the sense of air that high-resolution audio has is not lost in transmission during balanced output.
In addition to 44.1kHz and 48kHz internal clocks, 10MHz external clock input is also supported.
When connected by USB, rather than synchronizing with a computer clock that is unstable and noisy, the UD-503 supports asynchronous USB transfer mode, allowing it to control PCM and DSD signals by synchronizing with its own clock generated by its built-in high-precision crystal oscillator. Two dedicated internal clocks running at 44.1kHz and 48kHz are built in. By applying clock from an audio grade high-precision crystal oscillator, which features low phase noise, to input signals which that sampling frequency are whole number multiples, the effect of jitter on audio quality can be largely suppressed and the audio source can be reproduced faithfully.
In addition, with support for 10MHz external master clock input, synchronization with master clock signals of even higher precision is possible. By synchronizing with clock that has an even higher precision, you can enjoy changes in tone quality and improved audio quality that can be felt physically.
UD-301
Dual Monaural Digital-to-Analog Converter
A new standard in high-resolution audio, delivering high performance audio from a desktop component
A new standard in high-resolution audio, delivering high performance audio from a desktop component
High-performance BurrBrown PCM1795 digital-analog converter
The two internal BurrBrown 1795 digital-to-analog converter units each work on a single channel (left or right) for true dual monaural operation. They are capable of 32-bit processing and so have the capacity to process 5.6MHz DSD data in large quantities, making them indispensible for faithful and accurate playback of high-resolution sound sources.
MUSE operational amplifier enables highest quality analog signal processing
We use these in the analog circuit, they are a vital element in determining the final sound quality. They transform the electrical current output of the D/A converter into a voltage signal. We opted for a dual monaural configuration for the operational amplifiers, employing two MUSES8920 operational amplifier units, one on each of the left and right channels. These devices are made by New Japan Radio and are designed especially for hi-fi audio.Capable of 5.6MHz DSD native playback
The USB input facility allows DSD native playback which converts 5.6MHz DSD files directly into analog signals without needing first to convert it to PCM. It supports both the ASIO2.1 and DoP (DSD over PCM) conversion methods. Using the AI-301DA in conjunction with the TEAC HR Audio Player* high-resolution playback computer software application, anyone can easily explore the world of high-rez digital audio, including 5.6MHz DSD or 32bit/192 kHz PCM files, without having to grapple with complex settings etc.
Up to 192kHz up-conversion option.
When handling digital signals of 96kHz and less, users have the option to upconvert to double or quadruple the original signal sampling frequency. Even when playing back a 44.1kHz sound source (equivalent to CD sound quality) a smoother analog audio signal can be obtained in order to convert to a higher resolution digital signal. Naturally, this up-conversion facility can be switched in or out, according to the user's preference.
Dual monaural design eliminates interference between the left and right channels
In order to process the audio signal from a high-resolution sound source in a purer state, we adopt a dual monaural circuit design whereby each of the left and right channels comprises its own single monaural circuit. This avoids mutual interference between the left and right channels and enables pure stereo playback.
Even the headphone amplifiers used in the CCLC circuits are of dual monaural design
The 100mW + 100mW output (at 32 ohms load) headphone amplifier uses CCLC (Coupling Capacitor Less Circuit) technology. In conventional headphone output circuits, a capacitor is used for output-stage coupling, and so the sound is unavoidably colored. When the capacitor is combined with a high-pass filter this often results in phase lags, or low frequency level degradation. With CCLC the negative impact of capacitors on sound quality is eliminated, providing full low-frequency sound and a responsive headphone listening environment with great spatiality.
Doubles as a no-compromise, high-performance headphone amp
In addition to the dual monaural headphone circuits, there are options to switch off the XLR and RCA outputs on the rear panel. By cutting the power supply and isolating those circuits that are unrelated to the headphone output, the performance of the UD-301's headphone output can be maximized. This feature also makes the headphone amp very easy to use as the volume control for the headphones is completely separate from the output mode (Fixed, Adjustable or Off) on the rear panel.

A headphone Amplifier to Achieve peak headphone performance
In general, a headphone output from conventional hi-fi components does not allow even high-quality headphones to perform at their peak potential. The same way one chooses an amplifier to match with your favorite speakers, it is very impotant to chosse an appropriate headphone amplifier that matches your favorite headphones. A headphone amplifier is a "must-have" listening device for audiophiles.
Active DC Servo Technology for decreased distortion, and discrete Class-A Amplifier
In order to develop a first-class low distotion Class-A headphone amplifier, TEAC held a series of sound evalutions during the development. These tests led to the careful choosing of parts and descrete circuit design. In addition, like most full-size hi-fi components, in order to eliminate Offset Electrical Potential, Active DC Servo Technology is utilized.
Dual Monaural Design that eliminates interference between Left and Right channels
In regards to the circuit design, each channel is completely designed on an individual basis to avoid signal interface to/from another. This contribution eliminates cross-talk, crucial headphone listening.
